Children's
Eyecare
Children’s eyes are an important part of their health and development. Vision loss and eye conditions can make the challenges of childhood all the more difficult, so we aim to provide the best care possible to safeguard children’s eye health. We are a community practice and taking care of patients of all ages is part of that – from our eye tests for kids to our amazing range of glasses for children we ensure that our youngest patients get the best care available.
Kid’s eye tests
While there are many things you can do to take care of your children’s eyes, it is important to have them checked by a professional at regular intervals.
Assessing a child’s vision and eye health will allow us to catch vision loss and eye conditions so they can be treated quickly and effectively.
Through the NHS, eye examinations are also free for children under 16 and teenagers under 19 in full-time education.
What is myopia & why is it an issue?
Having myopia, also known as shortsightedness, means objects at a distance will appear blurry.
Each year more children are being diagnosed with myopia and it is predicted that 50% of the world’s population will be myopic by 2050.
For a child, myopia affects every part of their school and personal life so correcting their vision is crucial.
Encouragingly, myopic control technology is becoming more advanced and effective.
Myopia can be managed by contact lenses - we recommend MiSight by Coopervision - and spectacle lenses - Stellest by Essilor.
We also offer Ortho K contact lenses, which are specially designed to correct myopic vision whilst you sleep and slow down its progression over the years.
Glasses for children
We offer an incredible array of glasses for children with frames designed for all ages.
As well as being able to see clearly, we understand how important it is for children to feel comfortable and confident with their glasses.
With this in mind, we stock frames in a wide range of designs and styles to appeal to children’s preferences.
Our consulting team have years of experience in helping children find glasses and will always be happy to help with advice and recommendations.
